Who Needs a Cosmetic Dentist?
While some think that a cosmetic dentist is only for those with aspirations of fame the truth is there are many others who can and do benefit from cosmetic dentistry. The problem is that those without aspirations of fame may not really know what is possible through the many different applications of cosmetic dentistry, or they may not even know where to start looking. A cosmetic dentist can give that housewife the smile she always wanted and in doing so restore her confidence. He can help that baby that was born with a birth defect look and feel normal. The benefits of cosmetic dentistry are by no means resigned only to those seeking to look picture perfect for their close-up. Rather, cosmetic dentists can help humanity as a whole on varying levels.
A good cosmetic dentist can make one feel better about him or herself before they ever begin their work. The know how to recognize the beauty within and the potential beauty without and bring that to life in their patients before the first procedure is ever started. This is a talent and a gift, and many use it as such. While some do stick to the glamour jobs of the Hollywood stars, other want to use their ability for the good of humanity. Some even travel to third world countries, where any kind of dentistry is hard to come by, let alone dentistry for cosmetic purposes, and help those who would never be able to obtain their services otherwise.
Who needs a cosmetic dentist? The answer is simply anyone who is unhappy with their smile. Our smile, or lack thereof, is what most people notice first about us. First impressions are extremely important and extremely difficult to change. If a person is uncomfortable with their smile, they are likely uncomfortable in life. Cosmetic dentistry can make a world of difference by giving people the smile they always dreamed they could have. Whether it is a simple procedure such as whitening, or something that takes a little more effort cosmetic dentistry can make a difference.
If you hate to smile for pictures, in front of people, or just in general due to how you feel your smile looks, a cosmetic dentist could change your life. A little bleach or a set of invisible braces, and you could be on your way to a new smile, a new you and even a new life if you want. All it takes is that first step. Many will offer a free consultation, and some will even let you sample a whitening technique at a reduced price before committing.
Whether you simply want a brighter smile or you need major work done, contact a cosmetic dentist and get started. There is no reason to live with a smile you are unhappy with. Cosmetic dentistry is growing and there are many to choose from. Shop around, compare services and prices, and select one you are comfortable with and who will get you where you want to be. Then get ready to say "cheese" for the world.

A New Outlook On Cosmetic Dentistry
A New Outlook On Cosmetic Dentistry
When most people think of cosmetic dentistry what comes to mind is usually the techniques for making smiles whiter and brighter. While this end result is easily accomplished with cosmetic techniques and materials, there is a lot more to cosmetics than meets the eye.
When a person goes to see a dentist, the dentist not only looks for problems that may exist (such as cavities, missing teeth, gum disease, bad bites etc.) but also decides on a patient by patient basis what is the best way to return the person to health and give that person the most attractive smile possible.
In the old days (way before my time), there were not very many materials available to dentists that would restore teeth adequately. Even George Washington with all his power and influence had to put up with wooden dentures - no wonder you never see him smile in his pictures! Fortunately for us we have had a lot of advances in porcelains, ceramics, composite resins and adhesives so that nobody has to know, and probably can't tell, whether your teeth have been restored or not.
There are ceramics available now that match tooth color and texture almost exactly. These ceramics may be used to fabricate crowns (caps) or bridges (ie. two caps holding a false tooth between them) that look completely natural.
Even complete or partial dentures (false teeth) can be made that fit more comfortably and look like they belong to the person. If Mr. Washington had these techniques available in his day, our dollar bill would definitely have had a grin on it.
Bleaching is becoming very popular now and people of all ages are taking advantage of this simple technique for making a dull smile shine. The products that are available at the dental office are varied and so are the methods of application. At my office I use a clear gel that is placed in a custom made tray that fits comfortably over your teeth. The results that we have gotten are remarkable and have been accomplished in one to two weeks.
Posterior resins - These tooth colored fillings have come a long way. Not only are they more natural and aesthetic looking, but they have other advantages as well. The preparation of the tooth to receive the filling can be done in a more conservative fashion. In this way, more of the healthy tooth structure is preserved. These fillings, when used with the total etch - total seal technique described in dental literature can protect the tooth from the leakage of bacteria which can occur where the tooth and filling meet. In conjunction with the use of the caries detector, these restorations have the potential for longer life.

Cosmetic Dentistry Perfects the Packaging
Cosmetic Dentistry Perfects the Packaging
Beauty is power; a smile is its sword. ~ Charles Reade
We are truly living during a time where image is everything and aesthetically pleasing is the name of the game. And even though, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, you never really know whose judging and assessing your home, yard, clothes, shoes and most importantly your face.
It's not a secret, our society prizes the context of youth, and decisions are made everyday based on who looks their best; often times, without even knowing anything about the person being observed. Knowing this, either experientially or instinctually, adults are spending more and more money on improving their appearance by keeping up with the latest style trends to considering plastic surgery, injections, orthodontics or cosmetic dental work. According to Dental Economics, 92 percent of adults surveyed believe an attractive smile goes far socially while 74 percent felt a less than favorable smile significantly impacts a person's level of success with his or her career. Irrespective of how we look at it, we are marketing ourselves to the world.
Marketing, in a nutshell, is relationship building. It's a means of identifying, satisfying and keeping the customer employing one of the most effective strategies around... packaging.
Look around, buildings receive facelifts; lawns, gardens and pets get groomed; and what about that outfit?; accessorize it! Without a doubt, these are signs of the time and our teeth are just as important to many as erasing the wrinkles with the next best cream; however, it's important to note, cosmetic work and orthodontics are not limited to the baby boomers or teenagers. Patients of all ages are seeking viable options for enhancing his or her smile in order to remain in the game. With the state of the economy, cosmetic dentistry is quickly becoming an affordable preference for many.
What's considered cosmetic dentistry? The choices include whitening, lumineers, veneers, tooth colored restorations to replace the silver ones which could be composite resins or porcelain inlays or onlays, crowns, bridges, implants as well as orthodontics; although, the best treatment for you relies heavily on your specific requirements which needs to be discussed with your dentist. The end result is filling the gaps, straightening and brightening the smile. With today's technology, the benefits of getting aesthetic work far outweigh any concerns. AND, should pain or flat out fear be an issue, many dentists offer sedation
dentistry as an incredibly comfortable alternative.
As for the cost, if you're working with someone specializing in cosmetic work, the price is fairly similar across the board. If you already have a dentist you're comfortable with, ask to see photos of his work. If you're currently not sure who to go to, feel free to visit the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and follow the provided links. Regardless, the price tag means nothing if the results are not to your liking. For as much as you are marketing yourself to the world, your doctor is marketing to you. What does his or her smile say to you? In this case, it's fair to say the sword is mightier than the word.

Cosmetic Dentist - Keys to Successful Smile Makeovers
Cosmetic Dentist - Keys to Successful Smile Makeovers
If you have dull, dingy, misshapen, or missing teeth, you are probably reluctant to smile. A bright, stunning smile can give you back your confidence and natural joy. A cosmetic dentist specializes in smile makeovers that help you become proud of your smile once more. Cosmetic dentistry is the specialization in the dental profession that focuses on appearance rather than function. Dental professionals in this field make amazing changes to your smile. They use tools like veneers, bonding, tooth whiteners, crowns, bridges, and more to create a uniquely you smile that is bright and beautiful.
A beautiful smile is more than just an ego boost. Healthy, attractive teeth allow you to be perceived as successful and intelligent. Social interaction and professional networking, including interviews and client meetings, go smoother when you have an attractive smile. Even though it is a form of prejudice, chipped and darkened teeth are often seen as an indication of a lower IQ, a country bumpkin, or someone who is not successful. This can prevent someone with less than perfect teeth from achieving their goals. A smile makeover can put your dreams back within reach. The idea is not to have a false looking smile, but one that fits with your mouth and looks naturally beautiful.
One key to getting a great smile makeover is choosing a really good cosmetic dentist. Before you choose a dental practice, check out reviews from other customers online, ask for photos of their work and references, and visit the office. You should also ask about the dental professional's training and credentials. Many dentists are claiming to be cosmetic dentists without having actually been trained in that specialty. Selecting a quality, specialized professional will help on your journey immensely. The next key is to openly discuss any needs, wants, and anxieties with the professional you choose.
Many cosmetic dentists offer pain-free or sedation dentistry services for patients who have dental anxiety. The cosmetic dentist you choose should meet with you several times before the actual smile makeover begins. They need to examine your mouth, take measurements, and form a plan for transforming your smile. Your smile makeover will be a multi-step process, including items like whitening, reshaping, bonding, restoration, veneers, bridges, etc., depending on the needs of your particular situation. Make sure that you ask questions if something is unclear to you. Voice concerns before approving treatment so your dentist can address them properly. Ultimately, you need to be happy with the results of your smile makeover for it to be successful.
Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in the past twenty years and our dental office, Hutchinson Metro Dental, Bronx, New York is no exception.
Hutchinson Metro Dental is a New York dentist office offering a full range of dental services from root canals to smile makeovers 7 days a week.
To find out more, visit us online and book an appointment with a Bronx cosmetic dentist specialist today.

Tooth Whitener Kit - A Best Teeth Whitening System by Smile 4 You
Tooth Whitener Kit - A Best Teeth Whitening System by Smile 4 You
Teeth whitening is getting more and more in practice these days, you no longer have to perform expensive visits to the dental surgeons to attain those much craved achromatic whites. And now it is more convenient and inexpensive to whiten your teeth and in an even more accessible way. And there are versatile resources of winning this.
You can buy specific whitening tooth pastes or tooth whitener to clear up your smile, these can assist to get rid of some apparent stains on the outward part of the enamel (extrinsic stains) originated by the drinks and foods we take in, also the stains generated by smoking. While tooth pastes do not include bleaches, the harsh materials used can be rather corrosive, so it is recommended to use tooth whitening toothpaste that comprises fluoride which rejuvenates teeth and safeguards against scathe to the enamel so you can use this in exchange of your day-to-day toothpaste to keep whiteness everyday. Although broadly speaking, most tooth whiteners of this category are not robust enough to get into the deeper level of intrinsic stains and it is crucial to remember that whitening toothpastes will not modify the natural color of your teeth. But it is a thoughtful choice for those who want to lighten the general occurrence of their smile with minimum activity at very low price.
Tooth Whitening Gels and Whitening strips:
Whitening gels are bleach-based gels, visually crystal clear that should be used with a small brush smoothly to the surface of your teeth. It is suggested that this procedure should be performed twice a day for 14 days period; results can be seen within a few days and are said to last 4 months. Magnitude of the gels differs; some are unsafe for home use and can generate gum soreness and tooth sensitivity. Most tooth whitening agents that show good results have a bleaching agent commonly hydrogen peroxide or sometimes carbamide peroxide. This bleaching agent (oxidizing agent) simply bleaches the teeth which makes them look whiter. So what is bleached actually? A Home Tooth Whitening Kit Is An Inexpensive Way to Maintain the Beauty Of Your Teeth
A Home Tooth Whitening Kit Is An Inexpensive Way to Maintain the Beauty Of Your Teeth
The appearance of a person's teeth plays an important role in creating a good first impression. It seems that Americans have taken this advice to heart because in the US alone more than $600 million is spent annually on teeth whitening. As people have become more conscious of their appearance and their smiles there has been an explosion in the number teeth whitening products and there is now a profusion of products available for whitening teeth at home.
Using A Home Tooth Whitening Kit
Some of the home use teeth bleaching products include tooth whitening paste, tooth whitening trays and whitening gels. Tooth whitening is one of the fastest and best ways to improve your appearance and the cost of these home tooth whitening kits is around $20 which is affordable for the majority of people.
Because of the variety of whitening products available to improve the color of teeth many consumers start by trying the simplest remedy first. A whitening toothpaste is often the first step in the tooth whitening process although it often produces poor or limited results.
The next step is usually to move on to a home tooth whitening kit. There are differing opinions about the effectiveness of the home tooth whitening kit. Some people suggest that as a tooth whitening system it is totally inadequate; while others maintain that some of these kits are extremely efficient. Both groups are correct. Often those who suggest that the home tooth whitening kit does not work are the people who use these kits without any prior whitening treatments.
Home tooth whitening kits are often not powerful enough to whiten the teeth because the concentration of the required chemicals is much lower than that used by a dentist. Therefore, when used for the first time, they will not be as effective as advertised. When purchasing this type of home tooth whitening kit it is always advisable to check the strength of the bleaching agent used. The strength of the bleaching agent - usually hydrogen peroxide - will be listed on the packaging.
Look for home tooth whitening kit that contains professional strength bleach. Other tips for using these kits and improving their effectiveness is to use them early - don't wait for your teeth to become heavily stained or discolored. And always follow the directions on the package.
Advantages of a Home Tooth Whitening Kit
White teeth are not only a sign of good health but they are also an indicator of good health. Remember that many diseases can begin with poor oral hygiene, and decaying teeth can lead to digestive and intestinal problems.
Whitening your teeth in the comfort of your own home will put you in control of your oral care and will give you the freedom to whiten your teeth at a time that is convenient to you and not by appointment.
A home tooth whitening kit is much cheaper than a professional whitening treatment by a dentist.
Disadvantages of a Home Tooth Whitening System
Because the chemicals used in teeth bleaching kits can be harsh some people have been known to develop sensitive gums through overexposure to the chemicals. That's why it is important to follow the directions on the package and not to use these products for longer than the recommended time.
Some people think that by using the whitening kit for longer or by using more of the product than recommended they will speed up the whitening process. This is unlikely to be the case and can often lead to problems later, including sensitive gums as already mentioned.
Whitening teeth at home is a much longer and slower process than professional teeth whitening which can produce instant results.
Conclusion
If you begin early to care for you teeth and maintain a healthy oral hygiene program, you may not need to resort to professional whitening. However, do not wait for your teeth to become heavily stained or turn before you think about using a home whitening system.
And if you've already had your teeth whitened professionally, ongoing maintenance by whitening teeth at home will assist in keeping your teeth brighter and whiter for longer.

Are You Using The RIGHT Tooth Whitening Gel Product?
Are You Using The RIGHT Tooth Whitening Gel Product?
The use of a tooth whitening gel to whiten one's teeth and improve one's personal image has become a common practice as more and more people take advantage of home teeth whitening products. Countless whitening kits flood the consumer market today making it easier to pursue whitening at home. The question is: are they reliable? How can you know if a certain whitening gel is safe and effective to use?
Using A Tooth Whitening Gel -- What Products Are Available?
There are different kinds of gels available. Not all of them are the same; their strengths and applications vary. Home tooth whitening gels have been in use for more than a decade now but only recently have they experienced a boom in popularity -- probably because of the internet and aggressive marketing. Among the most popular brands are those by Proctor & Gamble and Colgate-Palmolive.
Some gels can be applied like toothpaste, like Colgate's Total Advanced Fresh Gel which is designed to remove stains for as long as it is in contact with the teeth. This kind of tooth whitening gel, however, is often criticized for being inferior in effectiveness because it's virtually impossible to keep a significant amount of gel on your teeth after brushing (after rinsing there's not much left).
Other gels are used in conjunction with a tooth whitening tray. Some trays are generic in nature; one-size-fits-all if you will. However, their effectiveness is often questioned as not everyone's dental structure is the same. Other companies offer custom made trays which are infinitely better than generic trays. The idea is to fill the trays with tooth whitening gel and then fit them on one's teeth while sleeping. That way the gels get to stay longer on one's teeth and make for a more effective whitening process.
Other gels are applied via strips. The strips are coated with a tooth whitening gel and are designed to be worn over the teeth. They are effective whiteners; however, the chief complaint against strips is that they often leave striping marks. Because strips do not perfectly cover the teeth, discolored nooks and crannies remain after an application.
Then you have a tooth whitening gel that is painted onto teeth. Like strips and teeth trays, paints can be used overnight for maximum effectiveness. The only drawback is that you can't close your mouth until the tooth whitening gel has dried on your teeth (anywhere between 15-25 minutes).
Lastly, we have dentists who offer professional tooth whitening procedures that often entail a few trips to a clinic as well as hundreds of dollars in fees. It's usually worth it though; dentists use a higher concentration of bleaching agent in their tooth whitening gel and sometimes a laser to speed up the whitening process. The effects are immediate and some people prefer going to a professional rather than taking the DIY route.
Using A Tooth Whitening Gel -- What's Carbamide Peroxide?
Carbamide peroxide is a bleaching agent commonly used in dentistry. Also known as urea peroxide, it is composed of hydrogen peroxide compounded with urea. The concentration usually employed for dentist-based tooth whitening is 22%. A home-based tooth whitening gel has a much less concentration, ranging between 10-15%.
Dosages above 35% will cause irritation and burning to the skin, eyes, and gums. Some people think that carbamide peroxide is somehow superior to hydrogen peroxide (or vice versa). This is not true. Both bleaches are equally powerful and will offer virtually similar effects when employed at similar concentrations.
Using A Tooth Whitening Gel -- Are There Side Effects?
There are generally no adverse side effects because most carbamide peroxide formulations are never higher than 22%. However, it is common to feel a heightened sensitivity after a good bleaching, especially when a wave of cool air hits your teeth. This can be uncomfortable but is temporary and for the majority of people, bearable.
Using A Tooth Whitening Gel -- How Do You Choose The Right Product?
There isn't really a "best" tooth whitening kit -- each one has its advantages and disadvantages. You have to choose a tooth whitening gel and system based on your lifestyle, expectations, dedication to the whitening process, and budget. Tooth trays are generally considered to be the most superior of home-based whitening products. Then again, some people prefer to use strips which are less cumbersome. It really is down to you as you weigh the tooth whitening cost as well as the pros and cons of each system. That's the best tooth whitening tip we can give you.
